About us

The Light for the Eye Foundation plays an important preventive role in eye care.

We focus on early detection of vision problems and offer solutions, which can often prevent further medical treatments.

Our accessible care focuses on people with vision problems and valuablely complements regular and ophthalmological care.

Our process

Eye examination

  • Complete anamnesis and refraction (vision measurement) to map out vision complaints and visual needs.
  • Through tonometry, we measure your eye pressure to promptly identify any elevations, which could indicate a risk for glaucoma.
  • Fundus photography (retinal photographs) to check retinal health.

Eye health assessment

  • The examination results are assessed by an optometrist, who remains responsible for the interpretation and diagnosis.
  • AI serves as a supporting tool and does not replace the optometrist.
  • If necessary, an ophthalmologist can additionally assess the fundus photographs and examination results.

Recommendations & Solutions

  • Based on the research results, the Light for the Eye Foundation provides recommendations for further steps.
  • This may include vision solutions such as glasses or optical aids for the visually impaired (Low Vision).

How we make the difference

The Light for the Eye foundation is unique in the Netherlands due to the combination of services we offer. We are the only foundation that brings accessible eye care, advanced technology and social responsibility together under one roof.

Preventive approach

While ophthalmology focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases, our focus is on prevention and early detection of vision problems.

No referral required

Clients can use our services without a referral. For ophthalmological care, a referral from the GP is often necessary.

Flexible locations

We provide care on location, for example in health centres and care institutions. Ophthalmological care is only offered in permanent clinics.

Ophthalmology pressure reduction

Through our preventive role and early detection of problems, we contribute to reducing the pressure on ophthalmology clinics, which can reduce waiting times there.
